These photos were taken at the Dayanand Ashram near Haridwar, northern India. Over 100 children live there, most of whom
suffer from polio, which is still a common disease in India. They are well cared for and receive a good education, without whch many of them could end up as street beggars. The buildings and dormitories of the orphange do not have mosquito frames on the doors and windows. Apart from the discomfort, the children are at risk from malaria and dengue fever. Dr. Eileen Sowerby from Canada visits the area every year, and is trying to raise money for the installation of frames.
