photo of the week and free photo tips
wat sukato

Wat PaSukato, Chaiyaphum, Issan, Thailand

Wat Sukato has a very rich and turbulent history for being only 30 years old.  Including being a hot spot for Communist guerrillas and mobs of villagers stoneing monks!  Today it is a very peaceful place & the epicenter of socially engaged Buddhism in Thailand.

FYI : Santipong, the monk in the photo, was a very successful architect who designed Thailand's tallest building. He then did a short but quite successful stint as a fashion designer. He now chooses the monkhood to devote his creative and compassionate energies to and gained a good reputation as a monk.  Santipong is unique, but in someways a good example of the monks Wat Sukato attracts.

 PHOTO TIP OF THE WEEK

As photographers we have to notice details, but don't get too focused on them to miss the big picture.
It is a subject with context that makes a photo.  Just the monk or just the lotuses would be good, but it is putting both of them in context that creates depth.
