Beyond the self
The revolution I am proposing with this writing and my life
is a revolution beyond “the self”, a revolution that can create
a truly just and lasting peace, a revolution that has been envisioned by scholars
and sages alike, a revolution that considers the ends and the means to be
one, a revolution that creates balance and harmony instead of extremes and
discord.
This revolution does not ask “who is to blame”
or “who can I ask to fix it”. All it simply asks is “how
can I help?”. This revolution does not dwell on the problems,
it focuses on the solutions. This revolution does not ignore politics, nor
does it stop there in its search for answers.
I have personally found this type of revolution to be the most effective and
empowering. I feel this is mainly because it considers the ends and the means
to be one. So every step that is working toward the bigger picture is also
leaving immediate yet lasting results behind. This leaves the practitioner
feeling continually renewed and optimistic.
This type of revolution is not as prone to centralization,
thus it is not as prone to internal power politics that cause revolutions
to loose sight of their original purpose and it is not as susceptible to outside
dismantling. The leaders of this revolution carry no titles and their
main job is to make themselves obsolete.
This revolution does not start with the premise that there are different groups
of people with different interests that best serve them. Thinking like this
created the problems, therefore it can not solve them. This revolution is
aware of and has great respect for the diversity of people, but it also looks
beyond that diversity to find the common denominators that are truly beneficial
to all.
This revolution does not try to tear down the status-quo,
rather it builds up a healthy and beautiful alternative next-door and invites
everybody in. This revolution does not emphasize rules; it prefers
good judgment, with understanding the ramifications of your actions as a prerequisite.
This revolution is open to insight and wisdom from all directions; all the
religious traditions, nature and science, children and elders, artists and
academics.
This has been short and vague by design. It’s not meant to be the final
say, only a platform to launch your own personal revolution from.
