Typhoon rolling in off the sea of Japan

In Japan everything revolves around the seasons. I was planning a bike trip to Wakkanai, the top of Japan, in mid-september. I looked at tents, but nothing jumped out at me. I waited 2 days then went back to get a tent the day before the trip. None of the stores carried tents anymore. The season for camping had ended sometime in the last 2 days. The Japanese can be very precise about things. No sales, No exceptions, No tents to be bought. So without even checking the weather off i went with and old army tarp and some rope stuffed in the basket of my second hand town bike with 3 gears. This storm (just starting to come in this photo) blew my friend tim's tent apart on a separate camping trip 100km inland. Needless to say my tarp didn't stand up well. I didn't sleep at all. Luckily my down sleeping bag has a highly water resistant shell. The storm faded as the new day came in. I rode a while and found an abandoned hotel that i took a nap in and hung up my things to dry.

This photo was a 30 second exposure and it killed my camera battery.
